The wisdom^ the justice^ the mercy J the hve of God are not figures, but realities, on which our moral life depends ; and to confound them with things which are figures, by including all under the common name of "regulative representations," is a course which may have its advantages to a philosophical mind, but the advan-^ tages of which are swallowed up in the fact that it is fraught with most pernicious falsehood.
