No doubt the Ittila refers to the doctrine of Jihad, just as an oppressed Christian community would, in the words of Milton, call on the Deity to avenge His slaughtered " saints," but from such a reference to the main object of the article there is indeed a great distance ; this object is distinctly defined as being that of a defensive alliance.
