He was, of course, elected, and held this important position five years. In the midst of the Hubbard campaign I purchased the St. Paul Dispatch from Ex-Governor Marshall, and on September 17, 1881, resumed control of the paper as its editor and sole proprietor. In the fall of 1881, the Minnesota Supreme Court rendered a decision which opened the way for a settlement of the old, repudiated State Railroad bonds, and Governor Pillsbury at once called an extra session of the Legislature to act upon the question.
