General Hooker on the same night visited the Union League Clul) of New York, and was welcomed by a large number of memliers. Mr. Jonathan Sturges made the reception speech, as follows : "Gkmtlkman: This is not a partisan club, as many suppose, but a club whose declared object is to cultivate a love for our I'nion, and to sustain the Governmentin restoring its author- ity in those States which are in rebellion.
