Your committee, therefore, conclude that there can be no color of objection to the dismissal of this charge, as unsupport- ed by any kind of evidence. 6th CHARGE. ''That the governor accepted the resignation of a person as -an auctioneer, and forthwith appointed another person, named by the individual who resigned, to the said office, he (the go- vernor) knowing and being privy to the fact, that the individual so resigning was to receive a certain sum or sums of money, at stated times, from the... individual who was appointed in his place; the governor thus countenancing the bargain and sale of *he office, and burthening the officer with the payment of a pension." This charge has allusion to the resignation of Mr. John Con- rad, an auctioneer of the city of Philadelphia, and the appoint- ment of Thomas Passmore, of the same place, as his succes- sor. It cannot be pretended to embrace any other transaction, because the resignation of Mr. Conrad " as an auctioneer" is the only one of the kind which has occurred under the present administration.
