Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary- land, That from and alter the f.rst day of May, in the year eigh- teen hundred and fifty-three, it shall not be lawful for the Clerks of the several Circuit Courts of this State, or the Clerk- of the Court of Common Pleas of Baltimore, to issue to any person or persons, any marriage or other license whatsoever, now author- ised by law, or which may have been heretofore issued by the Clerks of the County Courts, and the Clerk of the City Court of Ba...ltimore, except in the manner hereinafter directed by this act ; and if any Clerk of any Circuit Court, or the Clerk of the Court of Com- monPleas of Baltimore shall, from and after the said first day ofMay, in the year eighteen hundred and fifty-three, as aforesaid, issue any marriage 'or other' license contrary to the provisions of this act, ever}' such Clerk so offending, shall fo^eit and pay, for each and every offence, the sum of dollars. Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the Comptroller of the Treasury Department to cause to be printed, in the foj-ms prescribed by law or heretofore used and adopted jn this State, blank marriage licenses, traders licenses, ordinary licenses, non-residentiicenses, brokers licenses, hawkers and pedlars licenses, exhibition licenses, billiard table licenses, woodhucksters licenses, and all other licenses heretofore issued bytl^e Clerks of the Courts of this State, and now authorised by law, with the several grades, rates and descriptions thereof, with reference to the character and object of said license, the sum to be paid therefor, and the frac- tional part of the year, as nearly as can be, for v\'hich the same may be issued ; and the several Clerks of the Circuit Courts and the Court of Common Pleas of Baltimore shall, on or before the said first day of May, in the year eighteen hundred and fifty-three, and on or before the same day in every year thereafter, and at such other time or times as may be necessary, make application to the said Comptroller for such number of said blank licenses, and of each description thereof 'as may probably be required for the use of the respective counties and the city of Baltimore, for one year thereafter, and thereupon the said Comptroller shall forthwith deliver to the said several Clerks, the number and des- cription of licenses required by them for the space of one year, Jis nforesaid, the said Com]>troller, first countersignintr ihc.
