Its statistics are apparently in- cluded in those of the Annaka church. A little to the north of Annaka, on another public road, lies the capital of the Pref cture of Gumma, Maebashi. Work was commenced in this city by Rev. Mr. Ebina three years ago. Although the com- munity was not able to assume the support of a pastor, it was deemed advisable to organize a church here last November. It is now in charge of Rev. Mr. Fuwa, formerly of Fukuoka. Three fifths of his salary have been paid by the mi...ssion, but from July next this aid is to be reduced to two fifths, and it is expected that a further reduction to one fifth will be made at an early day. This is the only organized church connected with the work of this station which is in the receipt of financial aid from the mission. The pastor, Mr. Fuwa, besides his work in the city, makes frequent visits to country stations where a considerable number of persons has already been baptized. At one of these stations, called Jlaramachi, an ex-student of the Doshisha is serving as an evangelist under the Home Missionary Society.
