If we add together all the efforts put forth by the individuals of a community, the mathematical weights of these separate contributions are not equal, because the members of the community are not all alike in intelligence and physical strength ; or, if you like, the quality of one man's contribution is not equivalent to that of the next man. Given an equal effort, the share of one man is much more valuable than that of another, because he brings a very much greater sum of benefits to the community.
