Some hare-brain'd chiel', wi' little sense, Had got attour the farmer's fence, An' ta'en Grieve's cuddy frae the shed, Ae nicht when he was in his bed, Syne put it in a field o' corn That hadna jist as yet been shorn. Next momin', when Grieve heard aboot it, He was at first inclined to doot it, Until he saw the corn low laid, That to him siller wad hae made ; Then in a rantin' passion flew, An' swore he'd mak' the villains rue The trick they play'd that nicht, tho' he Should swing for it upon a tree !
