If we were ever so much disposed to pre- vent this scheme from going into operation, it is out of our power to do so. And however formidable it may look, we have got to meet it with courage. On this subject I hayc more to eay, but have not time for it now." 36 A suggestion may be added here, in reply to the very plausible pretensions oT the Catholic clergy and others, concerning the books which are used in public schools.
