He was awake, his bedding rolled up and put away in the bathroom, up and dressed and ready to get to work when she arrived in the early mornings. “I told you it wouldn’t inconvenience you, Miss Tillerman,” he said to her, pleased with himself, like a little kid who’s proved to you he could keep his own promises.
