He cries, Digitized by Google 64 The Still Lion, This is, and is not Cressui: Within my soule there doth conduce a f...ight Of this strange nature, that a thing inseparate Divides more wider then the skie and earth: And yet the spacious bredth of this division Admits no Orifex for a point as subtle As Ariachn^s broken woofe to enter: (Fo. 1623) Shaikespeare elsewhere employs very similar imagery: *but I am not to say, it is the sea, for it is now the sky: betwixt the firmament and it you cannot thrust a bodkin's point,' The Winter's Tale^ iii. 3 ; that is, though the sky and the sea are so widely divided, or separated, yet the sea mounts to such a height, that at times a point cannot be inserted between them.
