What reading level is Sir Edward Elgar book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
There are two great chmaxes, while the conclusion is massive and extremely effective. We would com- mend the work to choirmasters who have not the oppor- tunity of performing Elgar's larger choral creations. OPUS 68. SYMPHONIC STUDY FOR ORCHES- TRA, IN MINOR, WITH TWO INTERLUDES IN A MINOR, "FALSTAFF." ("King Henry IV." and " King Henry V." — Shakespeare.) First Produced at the Leeds Musical Festival, on October 2nd, 1913, under the composer's direction. Falsiaff is one of Elgar's finest works ...and deserves far greater recognition than it receives at present. Opus 68 145 The composer here strikes away from his inevitable dwelling on beautiful moments and we have the brilliant wit and humour, kingly dignity and tragedy, found in the life of Sir John Falstaff. After the Study's production at Leeds it was intro- duced to London by Landon Ronald and the New Symphony Orchestra on November 3rd, 1913. Since then the work has been so carefully ignored that the first performance by the Royal Philharmonic Society on December 5th, 1918 (Conductor, Landon Ronald) was reputed to be only the fourth of its career, a fact that reminds us of the slowness with which Beet- hoven's works made their way at first.
