The disappointed Israelite stood staring in amazement at the conclusion of this magic* trick, and then with woeful countenance approached the quarter-deck to make his complaint to the captain. The latter could not refrain from laughing outright, as he heard how the sailors had out- witted the Jew : — and telling the victim that he should not in- terfere, advised him to keep a better look-out in future.
