God will reward every man accor...ding to his works ; a man whose labours have been 227 abundant, will have an abundant reward. Who can suppose that the penitent thief, who escaped from an ignominious tree to paradise, will have a reward proportionate with the great Apostle of the Gentiles, whose labours were unparalleled ? The rewards will be various. Matt. X. 41, 42 ; 2 Cor. Ix. 6.
4. The reward of the righteous is glorious and eternal, and therefore loorthy of its great ^^uthor. Earthly monarchs have sometimes lavisJied rewards upon their favourites, who have risked their lives in the defence of their country ; new titles have been added to their names, and new accessions to tlieir property ; but what are these compared to the rewards of the righteous?
