Coleman was managing clerk in Mr. Gott's office for some four years — 1865-8 — and was thus brought into very close relations with him and he writes thus concerning him: "His kindly consideration and helpfulness to me in my inexperience * * * were in keeping with his kindness of heart and his unselfish nature and have always been to me reason for bearing him in most grateful remembrance.
