He was a patriot and a man of mark, es- teemed and honored by all who knew him. (83) KATHARINE HOLTZINGER HARTLEY. Katharine Holtzinger, daughter of Bernhart and Eliza- beth Holtzinger, was born in the town of York, September 26, 1750. Her parents were among the earliest settlers of York and natives of Germany. The daughter was well educated, and on reaching womanhood married Thomas Hartley. During the occupancy of York by the Conti- nental Congress, in the winter of 1777 and '78, the home of M...rs. Hartley was one of generous hospitality, and few women of her native town left a more enduring impress of her character upon her friends and acquaintances than did she.
