If it is immortal, then it is not dependent on the body, for the body after death is changed, and may be reduced to the form of substances which have no re- lation to the soul of man. If the soul is immortal, that immortality must be either known or unknown. If it is unknown, there is no proposition which is proven which asserts that the soul survives the body. If it is known, it must be known either directly or indirectly. If it is known directly, there must be a statement from the souls which survive the death of the body that they still survive.
