Dolan’s general store. Dolan had asked Lawrence Murphey, called the Major, John Riley, Jack B. “Billy” Matthews, Jesse Evans, and Sheriff William Brady to meet together to discuss their strategy in dealing with Chisum and Tunstall. Dolan, holding a glass of Irish whiskey in his hand, paced the room as he talked to the others, who were seated around a large potbellied stove to ward off the autumn chill. “Sheriff, you’ve got to crack down on Chisum and Tunstall more. Since they’ve opened their dam...ned store and bank, they’ve started to get some support from the smaller ranchers in the area, and I even hear from our friends in Santa Fe that the army is considering giving Chisum some of our contracts to supply beef to the Mescaleros.” “Hell, J.J., I don’t know what else I can do. Every time I see any of their men in town I brace ’em. I’ve thrown half of them in jail for drunk and disorderly, but Tunstall just bails ’em out and gets ’em back to work.” Murphey, who was well into his third drink, slurred drunkenly from the corner, “it was different when I ran things ’round here.”

Is there NO other way for Falcon to draw and shoot"before the other man hascleared leather". I've seen this "description" (which requires "quite" an imagination) about 150 times already.

The interest in thislast part about the 3 remaining Regulators and Falcon attacking the rustling gand, shows that the writer repeated 3-4 of previous descriptions. 1) the shotgun wielder blowing off at the hip his opponent's leg and shredding to the bone his other leg. 2) . Falcon, shot on the calf, slows his horse enough to wind a bandanna around the injury.3) an attacker wounded in one arm drops hs gun and pulls out another with hisother hand, stuffing his helpless arm into his belt.. These were all usesd at WDELY separated, even different stories, but here, they are all together in one single short period attack.. Hmm.!!

It is a good story, full of drama but also full of holes, because the people behaved in that very stupid senseless way of those times. The Regulators should have spent all their time getting at tthose at the top, even if they had to trvel a bit to other cities.
Also the publisher's editor needs to be reminded that all those "centre chest" shots piercing the lungs, allowing the dying men to speak, would also have pierced the heart, with is in the exact centr of the chest.
