Dramatic poetry was 10 SOUTHERN SLAV CULTURE also cultivated in all its branches. The tragedies of the period include imitations of Seneca's plays by Gametic and Lukarevic in the sixteenth century, and the transla- tion of the tragedies of Sophocles by Zlataric. The pastoral type of play was first represented by the naive eclogues of Naljeskovid (sixteenth century), but subse- quently under the influence of the Faithful Shepherd by Guarini and Tasso's Aminta (both of which were already translat...ed in the sixteenth century) its further develop- ment produced some of our most beautiful and profoundly national poetry, such as the Duhravka by GunduHc. Comedy emulated the examples of Plautus and the commedia erudita. A hundred years before MoHere, the Eagusan sixteenth-century poet Drzic treated the same subjects as were subsequently handled by the great French comedy-writer in his Avare and in Georges Dandin, but in the eighteenth century the Eagusan comedy- writers confined themselves to adapting Moliere's plays from the French.
