There is no doubt of the faft that the ancient diftrift of Chaparriftique, now San Miguel, inter vening between the river Lempa and the Bay of Fonfeca, was occupied by a tribe or number of tribes and families, differing in language cer- 15 tainly, and probably in origin and character from the Pipiles.
