THE Cid's horse Bavieca is famous in the ballads. His master greatly valued him, and after the defeat of the Counts of Carrion offered to give the horse to King Alfonso. The King gratefully declined, and Bavieca carried the Cid back to Valencia: and later, bearing his master's body, marched to the burial place at San Pedro de Cardefia of Burgos, and near the same Bavieca was himself afterwards buried.
