30 Thus Cubans were made participants in '"an evident antl extremely beneficent advance, " for the Civil Code, as is felicitou...sly stated in the preaml)le to the aforesaid royal decree, " reduces to one source the numerous dissimilar and conflicting fountains of the old Spanish civil law, modifies in a rational manner the law of inheritance, illu- mines and improves the law of personal rights and in general, with tradition as a basis, includes and regulates all classes of personal rights in a form that is more rational, more systematic and scien- tific than that effected by the laws which in so valuable and abun- dant a series have been bequeathed to us by former centuries.
