The Know Nothing or American party make war on the Constitution, in regard to religious toleration. That the latter, in their national council, made war on civil and religious liberty, is admitted by two gentlemen of the same party — one from Louisiana and thef ther from Alabama. I will say here, what I have often said at home, that the violation of either the provision of the Constitution in reference to religious toleration, or that in regard to slavery, is equally vital.
