The faintest stars visible without a telescope, and all requiring its aid, are referred to by their numbers in star catalogues, or by their right ascensions and declinations. In this atlas, following present usage, the individual stars are designated by a letter or by a number, if such letter or number is in use. The individual names of stars of the first magnitude, and of a few others which are extensively used, are also given upon the maps.
