What reading level is Statham's Abridgment of the Law book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
Law, 2d ed., Vol. 1, p. 216.] All the authorities, and noticeably and of course most inter- estingly Maitland, touch upon the subject of attorneys; it is not necessary to repeat their learning here, yet if one were to have to argue the point as to the power to make an attorney in a certain case, under certain circumstances, it is not clear that our present knowledge of the law would be sufficient to solve the point involved. In all these cases we have been skimming lightly and pleasantly over t...hese various subjects, and in so doing we are but following our guides and teachers. The history of the law is too voluminous, too intricate and technical, to be more than skimmed over by even the deepest and most wonderful of all those who have written upon it. Almost any one of these titles in this abridgment would furnish valuable, even necessary, matter enough to fill an ordinary volume; how, then, expect the two or three volume histories of our law to cover exhaustively even a small part of it?
