But I’m willing to stick out my neck and hazard that of the three dead rock stars in “Touring,” Janis Joplin is mostly Michael Swanwick’s (who has written about her in his solo short story, “The Feast of Saint Janis”), and by default Elvis is mostly Jack Dann’s, because the opening of “Touring,” told from the point of view of Buddy Holly, is pure Dozois.
The theme and course of the story is set with vivid immediacy from the blatant untruth of the first sentence.
