It is evident that the dramatic capabilities of such a scene fbniish an oocadon for the dis- play of high poetical power. Xhc interview between Henry and his fidthful friend and adherent; the anxiety of the reformer to vindicate himself from disloyalty, whilst he honestly supported his own opinions; the natural desire of the king to resist innovar tion, whilst he respected the virtues of the innovator, — ^points like these would have been handled by Shakspere, or one imbued with his spirit, in a manner that would have lived and abided in our memories.
