Findings about participation of recreationists in activities proposed for taxes follows: 1 Primary Activitv Wildlife VIewina Bird Watchina 1 Picnicking 47% 42% Camping (all) 46% 23% Tent camping/campground 28% 14% Backpacking 27% 12% RV camping 12% 10% Mountain biking 11% 5% Canoeing 10% 9% Downhill skiing 8% 9% Cross-country skiing 6% 5% Off-road vehicle riding 16% 10% Rock climbing 9% 7% And, for comparative purposes, the percentages for activities which would not be taxed: Driving for pleasure 60% 51% Rigorous walking 73% 56% Swimming 55% 31% 96 Recreationists proposed to be taxed are generally satisfied with their present experiences, including opportunities for wildlife-associated activities, and do not appear to be very motivated to pay taxes for additional services.
