What reading level is Tennis book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
69. a See Appendix p. 450. ON UMPIRES 365 tinctly, so that the players may be sure to hear him. When he has a reasonable doubt, let him direct the players to ' play it out,' and at the conclusion of the rest he can either ask the opinion of the line-umpire or decide the point hjmself. But if the question be really one for his own judgment, he will generally act wisely if he give his verdict at once. The decision of the moment will in most cases be right, while any attempt to argue the matter ou...t in his own mind will only tend to confuse him. He should follow the ball with his eye the whole time, and with the greatest attention, instead of watching the line. If he adopt the latter course it will often be extremely difficult for him to judge on which side of the line the ball has dropped. He should not allow himself to be influenced by the fact that the player, being uncertain whether the ball will drop in or out of court, has taken it at the half-volley. The writer once had to play two long and quite unnecessary sets because, in the arrogance of the moment, he returned at the half- volley a ball which dropped out of court, and in fact determined the match in his favour, but which the umpire naturally concluded to be in play because it was returned.
