It would seem that the room communicatLxl with the dorter or d(jrmitory, and was designed for invalid monks, who from it might hear mass sung in the church without going down- stairs. In the south-east corner of the transept a staircase gives access to this chamber, and communicates with the triforium of the transept, the clerestory of the choir, the vaulting of the ambulatory as well as that of the tower.
