But then, as now, a deep popular sense of justice, and a clear popular sentiment of gratitude sought expression through the suffrages of the people, and proclaimed to all the world that a nice balance of advantages, not easy to be discerned, does not always become a people who have been served as the people of Massachusetts have been served by DANIEL WEBSTER.
