When the foot-key is placed upon one of the nitrous oxide cylinders, and is turned, the liberated nitrous oxide passes to its bag through brass and india-rubber tubes of com- paratively large calibre. When oxygen is similarly released from its cylinder it passes to its bag through brass and india-rubber Apparatus 29 tubes which are so much smaller than the nitrous oxide tubes that they are made to travel inside the latter.
