Nor is this de- duction founded upon abstract argument, but upon concrete proof. Lawyers and clergy, as well as doctors, know the endless evils to which alcohol leads. True, they may not attribute di- rectly to it the subtle sclerosis of liver and kidney and brain, the hard artery, the fat and generally degenerate body. But they see the poverty, starvation, cruelty, ac- cidents, and injuries to which it leads.
