As usual, Vida’s mind was running on the same track as mine. We had left Alpine at eight-thirty, after a brief check at the office where all seemed well, probably because Ed and Carla hadn’t yet arrived. It was just after ten when I pulled off the freeway to head for Virginia Mason Hospital on Seattle’s First Hill, or as it’s more commonly known, Pill Hill. Located above the downtown area, the neighborhood is crammed with hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and medical specialists.
