His married life might not have been easy. Vida was critical, domineering, opinionated, and she couldn’t cook. She was a doting mother and grandmother, but had she been a devoted wife? Of course, she always spoke of Ernest in the most glowing terms. Vida made him sound like a man without a flaw. But that was only in retrospect, after he was dead.
I shook my head.
