The method of drying this residue depends upon whether or not the qualitative analysis has shown the presence of ammonium salts or other substances that may be volatilized or decomposed on heating. If the explosive does not contain ammonium salts, it is customary to dry the residue at a temperature of 100 C. For 5 hours, a pro- cedure that has been found to insure constant weight.
