Digitized byLjOOQlC QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS. 55 If the qualitative analysis of the explosive has indicated that it contains a considerable proportion of starch, the extractions will be facilitated by the use of porous alundum filtering crucibles in place of the ordinary porcelain Gooch crucibles, as the porous crucibles permit the water solution to filter through the walls of the crucible above the dense layer of starch which will separate out in the bottom of the crucible.
