P>y vehement entreaties, Themistocles persuaded him to hold the whole fleet for a day or two at Athens, to help remove the women and children and old men to Salamis and other near-by islands. More than 200, 000 'One Spartan, who had been left for dead by the Persians, afterward re- covered and returned home.
