Probably the Corps has never been more highly drilled and disciplined than when, in May, '64, it marched to New Market. Nor was this all.
A number of Cadets of that Corps had seen service in the field and had their baptism of fire, some of them imder the eye of Stonewall Jackson. In their veins coursed the best blood of the South, and by inheritance they possessed^ one and all, the patriotism and valor of their sires. Just a short year before the march to New Market, borne on the shoulders of eight Cadets, all that was mortal of Stone- wall Jackson was carried into the room where for so many years he had taught, an object lesson to them never to be forgotten, of heroism, manly virtue and valor, and glory achieved.
