Xxxvi. 24, 37. The coming of Christ is promised by himself; but yet " the spirit and bride say come, and he that hear- eth must say come, " and when Christ says THECLOSET. 75 he will " come quickly, " we must add, " even so come Lord Jesus. " Divine grace kindles these ardent affec- tions when the mercies promised are upon the wing. Prayer is that chain, as Diony- sius calls it, that draws the soul up to God, and the mercy down to us ; or like the cable that draws the ship to land, though the shore itself remains unmovable.
