At 11 a.m., on 28th May, 1874, the Chinese boat Chung- Sune, Lai Ahsing, Captain and owner, trading between Hong- kong and Hoi-Foong, left Victoria, having on board, besides the Captain, a supercargo named Yeong Wai-Lum, six sailors, a wo...man and child belonging to the vessel, and twenty pas- sengers, amongst whom were Pang Kee-Leong, LooAh-Sheak, Chea A-Hung, Mok Ah-Faht, all traders between Hongkong and Hoi-Foong. The vessel having a miscellaneous cargo, valued at several thousands of dollars, went out of the Ly-ee-moon pass, stopping at the Foo-tow-moon Custom-house, where a Chinese Govern- 46 ment steamer was anchored. Here the Chinese Customs' officer came on board; all the boxes and packages were examined, and duty was paid.
