He placed his hands on her shoulders. “You can’t believe that’s what I want.” It was a lot easier to have this conversation without looking at him, so she continued to study the flowers she’d purchased that afternoon. “I know you wouldn’t want to hurt me. We’re friends, and you care about me. That caring might make you do something you’d otherwise rather not do. I’m not saying you’d have to grit your teeth and think of England, but maybe you’re being pushed in a direction you don’t want to go.
