" Why did you do that, Freckles? asked Abe, quicker and hotter than I had ever heard him speak before* " Because the dog s ugly and I wanted to hear him holler, replied Freckles. " Well, said Abe, I am ugly too. Next time you want to hit somebody ugly, hit me ; I ll know why you hit me ; Honey doesn t. Then Abe walked away and sat down upon a sack of corn, and patted Honey. When Freckles approached him, Abe asked: How would you like for your father to slap you, when you didn t know what he was slapping you for?
