^ I take asyandawun to be a nonn, as, according to the r...eading of the Kimkta, nine means of livelihood are here enumerated. ^ This is, of course, the answer of the seers; cp. 137, note ^. The context indicates that this sloka, though found in Bm^ only, is appropriate here, while its obviously un-Vedic character shows it to be out of place in the Nirukta. Hence there can be little doubt that it is an interpolation from the BD.; this is more likely than that it should have been introduced into both works from some other common source. Durga does not comment on the sloka.
