The two afterwards united and coalesced. (2) The period when they have succeeded in effecting permanent settlements in the country, establish sea-board towns and colonies, and begin to carry on active commercial enterprise ; and (3) The period when, under the great Brian Boroihme (Boru), the chief sections of the Celtic population unite to break the power of the Danes, and prove successful at the great battle of Clontarf.
A brief and rapid survey must be given to each of these periods.
