The Bishop's insistence and persistence in urging the cause of Church education in general and of Geneva in particular are highly characteristic. Almost no one in New York agreed with him. "I am the more gratified," he writes to McDonald after ...the granting of the conditional charter, "I am the more gratified, inasmuch as I have found it difficult to make the clergy and others in this quarter feel as I have felt on the subject. This being the situation in New York, all depended there upon the Bishop alone. Unhappily, throughout the critical three years in which the endowment had to be raised, Hobart was a very sick man or was out of the country.
