L. S. C, until I imagine some of my friends thought I had C. L. S. C. On the brain. I must confess I had begun to think it was all wasted breath : so you may fancy my delight when I was invited to meet a commit- tee from the Huguenot seminary, to confer with them in regard to the C. L. S. C. The members of the THE CHAUTAUQUA MOVEMENT 147 senior class had been to some of the teachers, and asked them if some plan could not be devised so that they could go on studying after they left. A faculty me...eting was held ; and, as they all knew my feelings in regard to the C. L. S. C, the committee was at once appointed with instructions to interview me. . . . The result of the interview was that a meeting of all those who were leaving school, and wished to have their home reading and study directed, was called, and I was invited to meet them, and explain the Chautauqua plan. Before the meeting closed, the South African Branch was born. On last Thursday I was invited to meet the alumnae of the seminary who were back to the anniversary ex- ercises, and explain our plan to them.
