What reading level is The Chemistry of Petroleum And Its Substitutes a Practical Handbook book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

This is done by shak- ing up twice with water and removing the nitrobenzene which now forms the lower layer. It is then washed once with dilute sodium carbonate solution, and finally again with water.
During the process of washing, any nitrobenzene which does not readily separate may usually be caused to do so by running off the main portion, adding a little more water, and shaking. It will probably be observed that the sodium carbonate wash- liquors are coloured reddish-yellow. This is probabl
...y due to the presence of slight traces of trinitrobenzene, C6H 8 (NO 2 )3, which is known to give a red colour with aqueous sodium carbonate. Mono- and dinitrobenzenes do not give this colour.
After the last washing with water the nitrobenzene is separated as completely as possible and shaken up in a sepa- rating funnel with successive small quantities of anhydrous calcium chloride. The turbid liquid gradually clears, and a saturated solution of CaCla separates as the lower layer, and is periodically run off.
