Of all the goods imported in 1861, something more than one half was of the produce of this country, while nearly a further fourth was the produce of British colonies, leaving not quite a remaining fourth as the produce of foreign states. The trade in the exports is still more exclusively with Britain. Excepting small quantities of wool sent occasionally direct to France op Belgium, and a very small proportion of gold to India or China, the entire yearly export produce of Victoria is methodically consigned to London or Liverpool.* The import Kst of Victoria presents a formidable array. With her hands ftdl of the precious metal, she has been a large and varied buyer in the world's market.
